9th Term University (Graduate) Student Mentor Recruitment for the Second Half of the Year
Kolon Group and the non-profit organization JUMP are working together to support the academic mentoring and cultural experience activities for youth with immigrant backgrounds, including newly immigrated and foreign families, North Korean defector families, and undocumented immigrant children. We are recruiting enthusiastic university (graduate) students to participate as mentors for youth with immigrant backgrounds. We look forward to your interest and participation.
1. Activity Overview
- Program Name: Rainbow Stepping Stone Mentoring 9th Term
- Purpose: To provide emotional support and academic assistance to youth with immigrant backgrounds, including newly immigrated and foreign families, North Korean defector families, and undocumented immigrant children, through academic mentoring with university (graduate) student mentors, thereby helping them achieve academic success.
- Activity Period: August 2024 – December 2024 (5 months) *Activity start date can be adjusted
- Target: University (graduate) students with immigrant backgrounds, including newly immigrated and foreign families, North Korean defector families, multicultural family children, international students, and overseas Koreans
- Number of Recruits: 0
2. Activity Details
- Academic Mentoring with Youth Mentees with Immigrant Backgrounds
- Matching with up to 3 mentees per mentor
- Activity Time: August 2024 - December 2024 (5 months) / 4 hours per week※ Mentoring time with youth mentees will be coordinated with learning centers and youth mentees
- Activity Location: Designated learning spaces at each learning center
- Mentoring Content: Korean (TOPIK preparation), grade-level academic subjects, etc.
- Cultural Experience Activities
- Provide youth with immigrant backgrounds the opportunity to deeply understand Korean society through various experiences
- Frequency: Once a month (included in the 4 hours of activity time) ※Activity expenses covered
- Mentoring Content: Cultural and artistic activities, experiential learning to understand Korean culture, career exploration activities, etc.
- Vacation Program for Youth: August 13, 2024 (Tuesday)
- Mentoring for University Student Mentors with Kolon Employees: Once per half-year

- Eligibility
- University (graduate) students with immigrant backgrounds, including newly immigrated and foreign families, North Korean defector families, multicultural family children, international students, and overseas Koreans
- University (graduate) students who can participate until December 2024 (students on leave of absence are eligible / those graduating during the activity period are not eligible)※ Must meet both conditions 1 and 2 to apply
- Application Period: June 24, 2024 (Mon) - July 29, 2024 (Mon) by midnight

4. Participation Benefits
- Scholarship support (differentiated by youth matching ratio: 2 million / 2.3 million / 2.5 million KRW)
- Cultural mentoring activity expenses support (7 times a year, differentiated by youth matching ratio: 50,000 / 80,000 / 100,000 KRW)
- Mentor capacity building education support
- Community activities such as vacation programs (sports day and Kolon Group visits)
- Career and employment mentoring with Kolon employees
5. Required Documents
- Certificate of enrollment (or leave of absence)※ Must be submitted with the online application form for the application to be completed.※ If difficult to attach online, documents can be submitted separately to the administrative office email (info@jumpsp.org).
- Proof of immigrant background (choose 1)※ Family relationship certificate, alien registration card, basic certificate, or certificate of overseas Korean registration (for overseas Korean applicants)
6. Key Dates

- Interview: Individual notification via phone

7. Notes
- Submitted documents will not be returned.
- If any information provided in the application is found to be false, selection may be canceled.
- Participation in all group activities, including academic mentoring, orientation, closing ceremony (January 2025), mentor education, and youth vacation programs (August 13), is mandatory. If you cannot participate, you may be ineligible to join the program.

- This center offers counseling and various cultural experiences for migrant youth, including Korean classes, art therapy, and English lessons.
- Mentors are expected to help these youth integrate into the community and support them in their studies and personal growth.
- If there are any issues (like family problems), mentors should help prepare the youth to cope with them in a stable environment.

Gyeonggi Northern Migrant Center
Region: Gyeonggi-do, Dongducheon-si
Activity Hours: Weekends: 10:00-17:00
Participating Youth Info:
- Elementary to high school students, 2nd generation migrants
- Nationalities: Ghana, Uganda, Nigeria, etc.
Mentor to Mentee Ratio: 1:3
Subjects: English, art activities
Center Introduction and Mentor Expectations:
- This center supports migrant youth and their families, providing educational and psychological programs to help them integrate and grow within the community.
- The center emphasizes the importance of sharing experiences and understanding each other to foster growth and mutual support.
- Mentors are expected to help children develop confidence and share their worries, guiding them towards a better future.
