Dongwon Industries Mini Guidebook

Since there aren't many successful candidates sharing their experiences, I've created this mini-guidebook for the Dongwon recruitment process.

General Information:

For the recent Dongwon recruitment, some candidates submitted their resumes in English, while others submitted them in Korean and were accepted. It’s unclear in which language the interview will be conducted.

However, since most domestic companies conduct interviews in Korean and English resumes were submitted, it’s likely that the interview will also be conducted in Korean. Additionally, when the recruitment notice was first uploaded, it was specified that all stages would be conducted in Korean.

In the case of an English interview, it's common for the interviewer to ask questions in Korean, and the interviewee to respond in English. It would be beneficial to prepare answers in English for questions about self-introduction, motivation for applying, and hobbies.

Interview Structure

Dongwon Interview Structure:

1. The interview will be conducted as a group interview (expected: 3 interviewers, 2 candidates).
2. The interview is expected to last about 30 minutes (since the time is short, it is expected to be a relatively simple interview).

• The interview will mainly focus on the self-introduction letter, along with common questions.
• Since the interview will be based on your self-introduction letter, make sure to review what you’ve written thoroughly.
• Questions based on your self-introduction letter will be structured like a follow-up question format, focusing on structured experiences.
• It’s unlikely that candidates have experience in the fishing industry, so it would be helpful to study a bit about it before the interview. For example, understand what the fishing industry is, what kind of company Dongwon Industries is, and what kind of transactions are common with the country of the candidate.

[What is a Self-Introduction Letter Interview?]

When participating in the interview, questions will be based on the experiences mentioned in your self-introduction letter, along with common questions. This is referred to as a structured experience interview, where the interviewers confirm the candidate’s capabilities through follow-up questions on one of the experiences they’ve described.

STEP 1: “You mentioned participating in activity A on your resume. [What is a Structured Experience Interview?]

A structured experience interview is where interviewers verify the authenticity of the experiences and achievements mentioned in your self-introduction letter and resume through detailed questioning. It is crucial to prepare answers to the why, how, and result of each experience.

• Why: Why did you decide to undertake this experience?
• How: How did you carry out this experience?
• Result: What did you learn from this experience?

It’s important to prepare your answers for each of these aspects.

[Key Points for Structured Experience Interviews]

• Verifying Authenticity: Interviewers use questions to determine whether the experience described by the candidate was genuinely their own work. This is particularly important for team projects, where you must clearly articulate your role.
• Truthfulness: It’s important to base your explanations on the truth. Exaggerated answers may lead to further probing questions to verify authenticity. It’s better to explain even embarrassing aspects of your experience, as long as you highlight how you’ve grown.

• “Why were your grades in a particular major subject low? Was the course difficult?”
• “Why is there no volunteer experience listed on your resume?”
• “You mentioned a startup experience. Could you explain what it was in detail?”

Due to the personalized nature of structured experience questions, it’s difficult to provide one-on-one preparation. You’ll need to analyze your experiences and generate your own questions.

"Hello, I am Diego, applying for the Overseas Sales position at OO Company. Since my university days, I’ve dreamed of becoming an expert in sales between Korea and Latin America. To achieve this, I’ve focused on two key aspects during my four years of studying in Korea. [Feel free to personalize the beginning part.]

First, I’ve worked hard to learn about the market. I’ve consistently participated in investment expos between Korea and Latin America, learning about how Korea views Latin America and vice versa. Additionally, I focused on market research and statistics courses during university, where I learned market research methodologies. Based on what I’ve learned, I’ve participated in activities such as OO and internships like OO, where I was responsible for conducting market research on the entry of Korean manufacturing into Latin America. [Introduce your first strength.]

Second, I’ve made efforts to understand differences. I believe the biggest differences between Korea and Latin America are the time zone and cultural differences. To overcome these major obstacles in trade and exchange between the two regions, it’s essential to recognize and mediate differences. 2. What Kind of Questions Might be Asked in the Dongwon Industries Interview?
